Hello, and welcome to my blog where I write about Arts, Crafts, and DIY projects, plus whatever else interests me.
For a start I want to share a bit about some of the great things I've been looking into making recently.
The fantastic thing about having some DIY/craftsmanship skills is that if a product in the shop you like doesn't quite fit the bill of what you want in your household you can design and build something similar but more suited to your specific needs. This is my favorite part about wood working.
I've been searching for some design/plans for household items like bookstands etc and I've found a great resource here
I plan on using a slightly modified version of the plans for the bookstand found there, I'll be sure to update as I progress, I hope it turns out as good!
A bit about some tools:
I've been updating my cache of tools recently, and if I can recommend one things it's that you purchase from reputable brands with plenty of reviews... also you should make sure that it comes with a decent warranty as you never know when something could stop working properly, it gives you a great peace of mind :).
The most recent power tool that I added to my collection is the drill press, after reading through a lot of wen, skil, shopfox, etc reviews I decided to go with the wen 4208, it's not a hugely pwoerful machine by any means but it is very well priced for the quality. Also, it comes with a great warranty.
Also if you're choosing a drill press, belt sander etc it's very important to consider what the materials you will be working on are. Because, some machines will operate at a speed more suitable to working with metal, and some wood.
One other thing to note is that a dp can also be used for sanding, and thus depending on your needs may render a sander pointless. here is a nice video explanation:
